Friends of Johnny Fitz share memories
and music at his memorial jazz jam
Bass player/vocalist Johnny Fitz, one of the most beloved jazz figures on the Space Coast, died Sunday, Nov. 1, after a long bout with cancer. The John Fitzgerald Memorial Jazz Jam was held Sunday, Nov. 29, at the Cocoa Beach Country Club. It was arranged by the Space Coast Jazz Society. A large crowd of Johnny's fans and colleagues turned out to honor him with memories and music. Pianist Mark Hubrouk, who led the trio that for many years included Fitz and drummer David Dunscombe, coordinated the event. Many of the Space Coast's most accomplished musicians were called up to perform.

Two of Johnny's favorite vocalists: Linda Cole, left, and
Rhonda Patrick

Al Stevens, who opened with Johnny at Dino's

Johnny's son, John Jr., and granddaughter, Peyton Shea
Fitzgerald.
Peyton stole the show when she sang "Twinkle Twinkle Little
Star."
To the friends and family of Johnny Fitz,
I would like to thank everyone who came to the Memorial Sunday
for making it such a fine tribute to a beautiful person. To the musicians
who played I thank you very much. But especially to the musicians who
didn't get to the bandstand I give you my deepest apologies knowing
that Johnny was filled with Joy that you were there for his Celebration of Life.
Fitz will be deeply missed by the community and we should keep his
memory alive by making great music and treating each other with
kindness and respect as he did with others.Let's keep Jazz alive
by encouraging the younger players
coming up.
That's what Johnny did.
Your Friend,
Mark Hubrouck
