Dan Jordan and Ashley Locheed

Dan Jordan Band will perform tribute to Cole Porter
At SCJS Concert on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14

With an appropriate theme for Valentine’s Day, the Danny Jordan Band will perform "A Tribute to Cole Porter" at the Space Coast Jazz Society concert at 2 PM Sunday, Feb. 14, at the Cocoa Beach Country Club.

Jordan, who plays the saxophone and the flute, will be joined by four outstanding Orlando-based musicians—vocalist Ashley Locheed, pianist Bob Thorton, acoustic bassist Benjamin Kramer and drummer Greg Parnell.

Cole Porter was a composer and songwriter who was one of the great contributors to the American songbook, His works include such standards as "Night and Day," "All of You," "I’ve Got You Under My Skin," "I Love Paris," "Miss Otis Regrets" and "Love for Sale."

Jordan has performed with many notable artists including Natalie Cole, Maynard Ferguson, Aretha Franklin, Charlie Haden, Mel Torme, Sammy Davis Jr., Woody Herman, Ray Charles and Barry Manilow. He has also worked on Broadway in the pit for shows such as "Suessical" and "Fosse." He has been involved in all levels of jazz education and is the creator of "Journey Through Jazz," a nationally distributed videotape.

Jordan won high praise when he and his band performed their Cole Porter tribute three years ago at a meeting of the Central Florida Jazz Society. He also drew standing ovations when he performed as a sideman with Ira Sullivan and Rich Walker at the 2006 SCJS annual benefit.

Vocalist Locheed performs regularly at popular Orlando jazz venues including the Portofino Hotel, Timpano, the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, the Hard Rock Hotel, the J.W. Marriott and the Vines. Her song list includes many of Cole Porter’s most requested tunes.

Music charge for the Feb. 14 concert is $7 for SCJS members and $10 for nonmembers. Students free. The Cocoa Beach Country Club is at 5000 Tom Warriner Blvd. in Cocoa Beach. Take A1A to Minutemen Cswy. and turn west away from beach.  Go about 1.4 miles.  Turn left on Tom Warriner Blvd.
