Jordan, who plays the saxophone and the flute,
will be joined by four outstanding Orlando-based musicians—vocalist Ashley
Locheed, pianist Bob Thorton, acoustic bassist Benjamin Kramer and drummer
Greg Parnell.
Cole Porter was a composer and songwriter who
was one of the great contributors to the American songbook, His works
include such standards as "Night and Day," "All of You," "I’ve Got You
Under My Skin," "I Love Paris," "Miss Otis Regrets" and "Love for
Sale."
Jordan has performed with many notable artists
including Natalie Cole, Maynard Ferguson, Aretha Franklin, Charlie Haden,
Mel Torme, Sammy Davis Jr., Woody Herman, Ray Charles and Barry Manilow.
He has also worked on Broadway in the pit for shows such as "Suessical"
and "Fosse." He has been involved in all levels of jazz education and is
the creator of "Journey Through Jazz," a nationally distributed videotape.
Jordan won high praise when he and his band
performed their Cole Porter tribute three years ago at a meeting of the
Central Florida Jazz Society. He also drew standing ovations when he
performed as a sideman with Ira Sullivan and Rich Walker at the 2006 SCJS
annual benefit.
Vocalist Locheed performs regularly at popular
Orlando jazz venues including the Portofino Hotel, Timpano, the
Ritz-Carlton Hotel, the Hard Rock Hotel, the J.W. Marriott and the Vines.
Her song list includes many of Cole Porter’s most requested tunes.
Music charge for the Feb. 14 concert is $7 for
SCJS members and $10 for nonmembers. Students free. The Cocoa Beach
